Dhankuta. The family of Jhagendra Rai of Chirang Chowk in Sangurigadhi Gaonpalika-10 of Dhankuta is in mourning. Jhagendra, who had come to the village to celebrate Dashain, said goodbye forever. Unable to bear the pain of her husband’s death, his wife, Anu, passed away. The family has been struck by lightning when one family member after another had to be sent away forever.
Jhagendra, 43, who has been living with his family in Dharan Sub-metropolis-11 on Tuesday, had come to Ahale village of Sangurigadhi on a motorcycle with his son on Tuesday. Jhagendra, who was also the ward president of Nepali Congress Sangurigadhi-10, went missing on the same evening. His motorcycle was found in Khaireni Khola on the Dharan-Aha road section at Dharan-20. His body was found in a river about a kilometer below the road on Wednesday during a search. His body was taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for postmortem under the coordination of Dharan Police.
The news of her husband’s death left his wife, Anu Chhanga. The family was struck by lightning. She was devastated by the loss of her husband and fainted on Thursday morning. He died on the way to the hospital. Jitendra Rumdali, regional president of the Nepali Congress, said that his wife Anu also died while preparing to take Jhagendra’s body for cremation after the postmortem. “She was devastated by the news of her husband’s death. She died on the way to the hospital in the early hours of the morning,” Rumdali told Sangalokhabar.
Husband and wife were buried together in the green community forest area of Dharan on Thursday afternoon. Nepali Congress Dhankuta Secretary Bijaya Santoshi Rai, Treasurer Dinesh Rai and other leaders have paid homage to him by waving the party’s flag. Rai was elected as the ward president of Sangurigadhi-10 from the ward convention held last month under the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress.
