‘To steer clear of diabetes, we will be able to go back to our ancestral way of life’

When human behavior goes against nature, then disease will develop. However, it is not uncommon for blood sugar or fat to be present, but if it is not used, it can lead to disease. The cause of diabetes in the South Asian region is hereditary. The hereditary sugar content of the species in this region is high. Not only is China and India at high risk of diabetes, but Nepal is also not immune.

People in the South Asian region used to have low glucose levels in their diet. Our ancestors ate more vegetables and fruits than rice. Similarly, foods high in fat are not regular. The lifestyle of the people living in this area is hard physical labor. As I worked in agriculture, I had to work hard.

As the supply of sugar from external sources was low but the consumption was high, the blood sugar of the people of this region was naturally high. That process was hereditary, but now there is a sudden change in lifestyle. Due to material comforts, physical exertion decreased and western food was adopted. Which by nature was exactly the opposite. External supply of glucose to the body is high and physical exertion is low. This has greatly increased the problem of diabetes in the region.

There is a lot of information about diabetes spreading in the world as an epidemic. The more information and awareness there is about this, the more confusion there is. When the confusion about the disease spreads, the health of the general public is in crisis.

A blood test on an empty stomach in the morning showed that the sugar level was more than 126 mg and that the blood sugar was considered to have increased. If it is seen between 100 and 126 mg, it is considered to be likely to cause diabetes. Similarly, if the sugar level is more than 200 mg after eating, the blood sugar is considered to be high and if it is 140 to 199, it is considered to be at risk of diabetes. Diabetes can be detected only when the blood glucose level exceeds 180 mg.

The amount of glucose in the blood of a healthy person is controlled. Even when a person is hungry for eight hours, the blood glucose level is between 70-100 mg.

Many people know that diabetes causes damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart and kidneys. As it is a very sensitive organ, people are checking it from time to time to prevent it. But every 30 seconds, one person in the world loses a leg due to diabetes. This condition is caused due to the inability to take proper care of the feet due to diabetes. With diabetes, the most distant part of the brain, the legs, loses consciousness. Due to which the possibility of injury remains high. There is a big misconception that you have to walk in green dubo after getting diabetes. This is the most dangerous. Because anything that stays there while walking barefoot can hurt your feet. Injuries to patients with this disease are less likely to heal, so the lesions can turn into cancer.

In the name of washing your feet with hot water, you should be careful not to get too hot. You should always measure the temperature of the hot water by hand before using it. Wear cotton socks, which absorb sweat. Shoes should be bought only in the evening. Because swollen feet dry up in the morning, swollen again during the day. Shoes bought in the morning may be tight in the afternoon and blisters may be picked up. Feet should be kept clean, and finger cuts should also be washed after washing. You should always look at your feet, so it is difficult to look in the mirror.

Diabetes also affects the eyes. The worst of which is the effect on the retina. Which is called diabetic retinopathy. There is a special type of blood vessel in the eye. If diabetes affects the blood vessels, the particles cannot get out of the blood vessels. As a result, the lubricant gradually begins to ooze out of the bloodstream. This fatty substance builds up in the retina of the eye. As it freezes, the eyesight of the eyes decreases.

Another effect is that diabetes closes the tiny blood vessels in the eye. As a result, blood does not reach the retina and the retina demands blood. As a result, new blood vessels grow. As it grows, the blood vessels rupture, causing bleeding in the eyes and loss of vision. Therefore, people with diabetes must get an eye examination.

Diabetics are more likely to have neurological problems than others. Diabetes directly affects the stroke and also indirectly causes various damage to the nerves. It affects the nerves, causing tingling in the hands and feet, burning and discomfort, paralysis of the intestines, night sweats, and dry skin. Diabetes affects all three nervous systems.

From Nepal’s perspective, diabetes is considered to be the most common cause of kidney failure. If the amount of protein in the urine is more than 300, then it is considered that there is a problem in the kidneys. It can be prevented, it cannot be cured. Therefore, it is important to check the urine from time to time after seeing diabetes. If the amount of protein is above 30 and less than 300, the kidneys can be saved. Urine should be checked as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Diabetes patients have high blood cholesterol levels. This closes the blood vessels and increases the risk of heart attack. It does not hurt the patient’s chest when having a heart attack. Hence it is called subtle heart attack. Mortality from such heart attacks is high. This can be prevented with a smooth bite.

When diabetes is out of control, sexual ability declines. For this, diabetes and high blood pressure should be kept in check. This problem is often seen with high blood pressure medication.

The main cause of diabetes seen in Nepal is the changing lifestyle. Now we can adopt this ancestral lifestyle again to avoid this disease. Rice can be eaten with less vegetables and more lentils. Eat less fatty foods. Especially physical exercise should be increased. There are many who jump in the morning in the name of physical exercise. To overcome the problem of diabetes, it is better to walk one hour after eating. file photo
