Division of Drug Control is restructured: Minister Khatiwada

Minister for Health and Population Virodh Khatiwada has said that the organizational structure of the Department of Drug Management will be improved. Speaking at a program on policy discussion on drug regulation in Nepal organized by the department here today, he said that it was necessary to restructure the department which was working in the old organizational structure. He also said that the area of ​​the department would be widened by adding more posts.

He said that discussions are underway in the ministry to adjust the price of medicines on scientific basis. Minister Khatiwada said that the price of medicine would be fixed in a way that would be convenient for all. Speaking on the occasion, Health Secretary Dr Roshan Pokharel said that the posts of the department which was operating in a limited number of posts should be increased. He informed that a committee would be formed to adjust the price of medicines.

Director General of the Department Narayan Prasad Dhakal said that the department could not monitor the medicines due to lack of manpower. According to him, the department established in 2036 BS has only 76 employees out of 115 posts.

He said that 328 posts were proposed by the organization and management survey in 2072 BS but it has not been approved yet. He said that the department was not able to function properly due to low staffing. The department has registered 20,000 brands of medicines and 15,000 entrepreneurs.
