Kathmandu, 24 Kartik. An alliance has been formed between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel. As the 14th general convention of the party draws near, a new alliance has been formed between the two leaders. Deuba has already signaled this by appointing Poudel as the coordinator of a high-level political coordination committee formed to assist in running the government.
Poudel has always been a critic of President Deuba. He is a leader known as a staunch opponent. However, after the leaders in their own group started moving forward in their own way, Poudel has also started preparing to go along with Chairman Deuba. Chairman Deuba has said that he will rise in the 14th General Convention. And they are preparing accordingly. Earlier, he had also discussed with Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
Sitaula is seen preparing to go with Deuba. Gagan Thapa, an influential leader in his group, is now seen as close to Prakash Man Singh. It is understood that Thapa will contest from Singh’s group for the post of General Secretary in the 14th General Convention. He has already announced his candidature for the post of General Secretary. According to high-level sources close to the Nepali Congress, there had been a long discussion between President Deuba and senior leader Poudel recently.
A blueprint has also been prepared on how to proceed in the discussion. Deuba has promised to make Poudel president immediately after the election if he helps himself in the upcoming general convention. Earlier, it was reported that the ruling coalition was preparing to make senior leader Poudel president. However, Poudel is claiming to be the chairman till today. And, he is adamant not to compromise with Deuba under any circumstances. file photo
