Fortunate any such kid who set an international file at start

Agency. Sometimes strange things happen in the world. Most underweight babies weigh less than half a kilo. But in the United States, children were born who set world records at birth. The baby, born in the United States in just 21 weeks, has been named the world’s most premature baby.

Curtis Mins was born last year in Birmingham, Alabama. He weighed only 420 grams at birth. His name has been entered in the Guinness Book of World Records. Normally the gestation period is 40 weeks but Curtis was born at 21 weeks one day. In that sense, it is possible Curtis was born about 19 weeks earlier than a normal baby.

Her mother, Michelle Butler, gave birth to a baby on July 4, 2020, after which she was taken to hospital. The next afternoon, she gave birth to twins, Curtis and C. Asya. However, C’Asya died the next day. Such babies born in such a short time are very unlikely to survive. Less than one percent of children are in such a situation.

But the doctor and Curtis’ parents did not give up. They took care of Curtis, who was admitted to the ICU, and remained vigilant. About three months later, Curtis was removed from the ventilator, and after 275 days in hospital, he was discharged.

But the challenge is not over yet. The doctor had to teach Curtis not to eat by mouth. The doctor taught her to breathe through her mouth and not to eat. “Taking Curtis home and reuniting her siblings with her brother was a moment I will never forget,” Butler said in a statement.

Curtis has three siblings. However, Curtis still needs supplemental oxygen and a feeding tube, but doctors say she is in good health. Dr. Brian Sims, a neonatologist at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, tells the Guinness Book of World Records, “I’ve been in this profession for almost 20 years, but I have never seen a child as strong as he was, there was something special about him.”

Curtis is under the care of Dr. Sims. Earlier, most preterm babies were born at 21 weeks and two days. The baby was born in Wisconsin and his name was Richard Hutchinson. For 34 years, the record was held by a child born in Ottawa. He was born at 21 weeks and five days.
