26 Naxal rebels killed in Maharashtra


October 28: At least 26 Naxalite rebels are killed in Indian police operation in Maharashtra, India. Naxalite had clashed with Indian security personnel in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. At least 26 Naxalites were killed in the clashes. According to the police, some other policemen were injured in the incident.

According to Maharashtra Police, the clash took place in Mardintola forest of the district. The bodies of 26 Naxalites killed during the clashes have been found by the police. Some rebels have fled and others have been injured. It is said that the police reached there based on the information that they were hiding in the forest.

Police have been conducting a search operation in the forest for some time now. A few weeks ago, there was a clash between the police and the Naxals. It is said that the Naxals started the attack after the police team reached the forest. Police said they also recovered weapons used by the Naxals.

These Naxals have been active in the central and eastern regions of India in recent times. The Indian government has also tightened security in those areas.Sinhawa / Photo: Agency
