Chitwan, Nov. 12: Construction work of Rotary Spinal Injury Center has been started at Bharatpur Hospital premises under the leadership of Rotary Club for the treatment of patients with spinal problems. Today the construction work has started by worshiping the foundation.
Eight clubs, including six from Chitwan, two from Nawalparasi and one from Lalitpur, are going to build the center by raising funds. According to Uttamlal Chuke, coordinator of the construction committee, preparations have been made to build the center at a cost of Rs. 60 million. He informed that initially 25 beds and later 50 beds will be made. He informed that cooperation will be collected with the Rotary Club, local level, state and federal government.
The center has been promoted as a joint project of Rotary Club of Chitwan Ratnanagar, Narayangarh, Bharatpur, Narayani Midtown, Gaindakot, East Chitwan, Kawasoti and Jawalakhel. Janak Poudel, former president of the Rotary Club of Ratnanagar, said that the hospital would be handed over to Bharatpur as soon as the construction is completed. He said that the target is to complete the construction work within a year.
As the spinal cord will be kept, only the floor will be made. Poudel said that Rotary would provide necessary assistance even after the handover of the hospital. The Spinal Center had been operated at Bharatpur Hospital from 1 July 2069 BS. Currently, the 10-bed center has been merged with other departments due to covid.
Medical Superintendent of Bharatpur Hospital Pvt. Krishna Prasad Poudel is also an expert in spinal treatment.
The construction of the center has been started on the five blocks of land of the hospital. According to Poudel, this will help in the treatment of patients with spinal problems. According to Dr. Bhojraj Adhikari, Chairman of Bharatpur Hospital Development Committee, it will be operated by the Development Committee after its construction. He informed that Rotary will hand over the hospital after constructing the center and connecting it with equipment.
The center will be developed as a rehabilitation center along with treatment. The center will be very effective as patients with spinal cord problems can be treated at the hospital, the official said.
