Kathmandu, Nov. 12: Former judges have urged the political parties to file impeachment against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra. While the judges of Nepal Bar and the Supreme Court are demanding Jabra’s resignation, the impeachment motion has been proposed by the former Justice Forum.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the forum said, We demand to protect the judiciary by fulfilling its constitutional duty before the conscious citizens.
Calling for talks, the former judges called the statement issued by Jabbar an attempt to cover up corruption and mismanagement of justice. “The statement issued by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana today calling for talks is merely an attempt to hide corruption and mismanagement of justice. It does not appear to be in the interest of the court,” said former Supreme Court Justice Top Bahadur Singh, who is also chairing the forum.
The forum also expressed solidarity with the ongoing agitation by the bar and judges against Jabra.
Speaking at the press conference, Singh said that the resignation of the Chief Justice alone was not enough to reform the judiciary and demanded that the constitutional provision for the appointment of the Chief Justice be rectified. He further added that the parties should immediately file a grand indictment if he does not resign. News factory
