October 30, Kathmandu. Nepali national women’s cricket team is playing T20 international series against Qatar for the first time. After the International Cricket Council (ICC) gave international recognition to the women’s team’s T20 game from 2019, Nepal’s women’s team is going to play T20 series for the first time.
Nepal is playing a three-match series against Qatar in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup Asia qualifiers. The first game of the series is being played today. The Nepali team has reached Doha, Qatar on Sunday to play the series.
The game will start at 3:45 pm Nepali time at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha.
Nepal will play its second match on Wednesday and its third match on Thursday and will leave for UAE on Friday.
Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bhutan and Kuwait along with Nepal and UAE will compete in the Asia selection which is the roadmap of the Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2023.
The selection competition will be held from November 22 to 28. Nepal will play its first match against Hong Kong on November 22. After the singles league game, the top team will reach the global qualifiers.
International game after 23 months
Nepal’s women’s cricket team has started playing international cricket for the first time after 23 months. After competing in the 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal in 2019, Nepal did not play international cricket.
After almost two years, the women’s team is about to play an international level match.
The Nepali team visited Bangladesh last year for the T20 World Cup Asia qualifiers and played a three-match practice series with the local team there. But that was not the official competition.
The women’s team had played only two domestic tournaments last year due to the Corona 19 epidemic and the Nepal Cricket Association (NCA) not working as expected.
