Suu Kyi accuses authorities of rigging elections

November 30: Myanmar’s junta government accuses ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi of rigging the election. Suu Kyi has been accused by the military government of rigging parliamentary elections in 2020. Myanmar’s military leadership ousted then-government officials and political party leaders on February 1 and took control of the government.

After the army arrested the leaders and took power, there has been a nationwide agitation against it. Some have been killed and some injured during the agitation. Expressing dissatisfaction with the election results, the army took Suu Kyi under control and registered a case against Suu Kyi over the election issue.

Suu Kyi, 76, who has long fought for democracy in Myanmar, has been charged with corruption and abuse of power. However, not enough details have been released about the charges against him. Former President Win Mint and former chairman of the Election Commission are among those facing the issue.AFP / Photo: Agency
