Ward declaration of kid marriage prohibited in Khalla village


Manm, Dec. 26: Tillagufa Municipality-5 Khalla village of Kalikot has been declared a child marriage prohibited ward.

Stating that child marriage has adversely affected the education, health, protection and social security of children, it has been declared as the second child marriage prohibited ward in the district.

Ward Chairman Tikaram Neupane said that child marriage was banned in Ward No. 5 under the leadership of the village municipality. “Now child marriage will be punished according to the law,” he said. “Child marriage must end forever.” He said that child marriage was common in the village before this but now it has been stopped by launching a campaign to end child marriage. The families of all the 150 households in the ward have expressed their commitment not to allow child marriage to their children as child marriage is a social evil and a legal crime, said Ward Chairman Neupane.

Just a few days ago, Shubhakalika Gaonpalika-7 and 8 of the district were declared as child marriage prohibited wards. As child marriage has dropped to 90 percent, child marriage has been banned in two wards of Shubhakali, said Khadananda Chaulagai, chairman of the village municipality.

Nepal is at high risk of child marriage and the government of Nepal has formulated and implemented a national strategy to end child marriage by 2030 BS. “As per the target adopted by the National Strategy for Ending Child Marriage, 2072 BS, the village municipality has formulated and implemented the relevant local strategy, 2078 BS, to end it at the local level.”

He said, “Child marriage must end for the promotion of the fundamental rights of children.” The local level has been given additional responsibility to mobilize community level organizations in collaboration with the government and development partners to prevent child marriage, to actively take and take action against child marriage complaints and to take action against child marriage. ”रासस / File Photo
