Kathmandu, Jan. 10 A meeting of the newly elected Central Working Committee from the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress is being held today. According to Krishna Prasad Poudel, chief secretary of the party’s central office, there will be a program to distribute ‘certificate of election’ to the elected office bearers and members at the party’s central office in Sanepa from 11 am today. A total of 134 office bearers and members of the Central Working Committee have been elected from the election held under the General Convention held in Kathmandu from November 11 to 12 last year.
According to the new constitution of the Congress, one of the office bearers of the Central Working Committee was elected from this General Convention for the posts of chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, two general secretaries and eight joint general secretaries. The treasurer will be elected from among the elected central members. Similarly, out of the central members, 35 are open, nine are women, 21 from each of the three states, nine are Dalit, 15 are Adivasi / Janajati, 13 are Khas / Arya, 13 are Madhesi, nine are Tharu, three are Muslims and one each from backward areas, minorities and persons with disabilities. A total of 134 office bearers and members were elected. In addition, the Congress constitution states that the central chairperson will nominate 33 members.
In the meeting, Prime Minister and party president Sher Bahadur Deuba thanked everyone, welcomed them and decided to register the party with the Election Commission. It is said that the Congress will submit the application for party registration for the election of National Assembly members in the commission today along with the decision of the meeting.
